Experimental studies of the acute and repeated administration toxicity of the Chinese traditional herb Jin Heng Ling

Abstract:Objective　To observe the acute and repeated dose toxicity of Chinese herb medicin Jin Heng Ling（JHL）. Methods　The mice of acute toxicity study was conducted with the oral maximum-tolerated dosage（MTD）of JHL was greater than 1.92 g·kg－1·bw－1. For the rat of repeated dose toxicity study，JHL of 0.48 g·kg－1·bw－1，1.04 g·kg－1·bw－1，1.60 g·kg－1·bw－1 were fed for 30 consecutive days，the condition of the experimental groups were generally good. The general conditions of animals were observed every day. The blood analysis and blood biochemical examination were performed after drug administration. The organ coefficient was calculated and pathological change was observed. Results　The weights，food utilization，organ weights and organ coefficient were not all different. The blood routine，count of white blood cells，and biochemical indicator were within the normal range. The histological examination in different organs had no shown specific pathologic changes. Conclusions　There is no toxicity caused by the acute toxicity test and repeated dose toxicity test of Chinese herb medicin JHL.
